Engineering Manager – Data Acquisition Bulk

About the role

Checkr is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead its Data Acquisition Bulk team, which powers the largest U.S. national criminal database used across all Checkr products. You will shape technical vision, mentor a high‑performing team, and ensure the platform scales safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Define and drive the technical vision for the Data Acquisition Bulk team.
• Collaborate with product management to deliver new features and improve existing ones.
• Reduce technical debt and scale the architecture sustainably.
• Build strong relationships with cross‑functional teams and represent the team in planning and product meetings.
• Recruit, hire, and raise the bar for engineering talent.
• Mentor team members, aligning growth with their career aspirations.
• Optimize engineering processes and policies to increase velocity and quality.

Required profile

• 4+ years experience as an engineering manager.
• 8+ years experience as a software engineer.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong critical‑thinking, decision‑making, problem‑solving, and attention‑to‑detail.
• Experience managing quality incidents as both technical and communication lead.
• Background working on large‑scale, regulated products with awareness of data, legal, and human impact.
• Ability to make high‑level prioritization decisions quickly and to make tough calls when needed.
• Commitment to building inclusive, diverse teams.
• Humility, openness to feedback, and a bias for action.
