Legal Consultant – Public Participation for Escazú Agreement Committee

About the role

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) seeks a Legal Consultant to support public participation in the Committee to Support Implementation and Compliance (CAAC) of the Escazú Agreement. The consultant will work closely with the ECLAC team and the Escazú Secretariat to ensure transparent, inclusive, and effective stakeholder engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare background documentation, annotated agendas, briefing materials, and talking points for CAAC sessions.
• Provide technical support during sessions, including detailed minutes, official summaries, and substantive reports, and ensure timely publication.
• Manage and regularly update the CAAC website and related digital platforms, publishing session documents, decisions, and updates.
• Draft analytical reports, summaries, and technical notes to assist the Committee in reviewing public communications.
• Support consultation, outreach, and dialogue processes, systematizing contributions and preparing stakeholder summaries.
• Design and deliver training sessions and capacity‑building activities on the Escazú Agreement and CAAC procedures.
• Maintain and improve the Committee’s website and stakeholder engagement platform, overseeing content management and user‑engagement tools.

Required profile

• Legal background with experience in environmental or public‑participation law.
• Ability to provide substantive, technical, and strategic support under supervision.
• Strong analytical and report‑writing skills.
• Experience working with international organizations or multilateral committees is an asset.
