Mechanical Design Engineer – Slurry Analyzer Systems

About the role

Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to develop mechanical solutions for slurry analyser systems used in mining environments. The role bridges commercial, sales and project execution teams to deliver safe, cost‑effective equipment that meets client specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with sales and customers to gather design requirements, provide technical input and clarify specification exceptions.
• Review sales proposals for technical feasibility and suggest improvements.
• Prepare engineering drawing packages, specifications, data sheets, cost estimates and BOMs for the sales team.
• Support integration of sampling and analysis solutions into overall plant layouts.
• Work with project managers, operations and supply‑chain teams to meet lead‑time and quality targets.
• Create detailed project documentation, including BOMs, drawings, part specifications and engineering change notices.
• Perform structural, fluid‑flow and pressure calculations, and run FEA/CFD simulations when required.
• Ensure designs comply with safety regulations, GMP standards and client requirements throughout the project lifecycle.

Required profile

• Proven experience in mechanical design engineering, preferably in mining or process equipment.
• Hands‑on expertise in creating detailed engineering drawings and BOMs.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to conduct structural, fluid‑flow and pressure analyses.
• Excellent communication skills to interact with cross‑functional teams and external customers.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple project phases from concept to delivery.
