Senior Controller – Hospitality Portfolio

About the role

Howard Financial is seeking a Senior Controller to lead the financial operations of its hospitality portfolio. You will partner with the Accounting Director to transform messy books into reliable, timely reports for hotels, restaurants, and multi‑unit operators.

Key responsibilities

• Own the full month‑end close cycle for a defined set of clients, reconciling accounts and reviewing journal entries.
• Prepare accurate monthly P&L statements, cash‑flow summaries, and departmental reports tailored to hospitality operators.
• Manage complex payroll structures for tipped employees, multiple departments, and seasonal staff, ensuring all filings are completed on time.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for client inquiries, communicating clearly and setting expectations.
• Document workflows, build checklists and SOPs, and reduce reliance on institutional knowledge.

Required profile

• 5–8 years of accounting experience, including at least 2 years in the hospitality industry.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to spot errors before they become issues.
• Clear written communication and good judgment on when to escalate.
• Proactive mindset – you identify problems and fix them without being asked.

Required skills

• Solid command of GAAP and multi‑entity accounting.
• Experience with hospitality‑specific payroll processes.
• Familiarity with platforms such as M3, QuickBooks, and Restaurant365 (or similar).
