Senior Controller – Short Term Rental Finance

About the role

Howard Financial is seeking a senior‑level controller to own the financial reporting for its fast‑growing short‑term rental vertical. The role combines deep US GAAP expertise with hands‑on oversight of trust accounting and month‑end close for a portfolio of sophisticated property‑owner clients.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end financial reporting for the short‑term rental portfolio, ensuring US GAAP compliance and investor‑ready statements.
• Manage and reconcile complex owner‑fund trust accounting structures.
• Drive a tight month‑end close, reconciling property‑management system data (Streamline, Guesty, Track) with general ledgers.
• Mentor and review the work of a remote team of senior accountants, accountants and bookkeepers.
• Act as the primary financial advisor to client leadership, explaining P&L variances, cash‑flow projections and operational health.
• Standardise workflows, implement internal controls and support scaling from 100 to 1,000+ properties.
• Coordinate external audits and ensure accurate tax, sales‑tax and regulatory filings.

Required profile

• 7‑10+ years of accounting/finance experience, including at least 3 years in a controller or senior leadership role.
• Extensive experience in short‑term rentals, property management or hospitality.
• Deep knowledge of US GAAP and multi‑entity consolidations.
• Proven ability to manage trust accounting and client‑fund separation.
• Strong client‑facing communication skills, comfortable presenting to CEOs and private‑equity investors.
