Cost Engineer – Mining & Metals Projects

About the role

The Cost Engineer will support Bechtel’s Mining & Metals projects in Santiago by providing routine cost estimation, analysis and control. The role ensures that project budgets are accurately tracked, cost data is prepared for proposals, and cost monitoring standards are applied throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine cost estimation, analysis and control activities as directed.
• Support implementation of cost monitoring and control standards, techniques, systems and reports.
• Assist in budget allocation, reporting and cost control for specific construction disciplines.
• Prepare cost data for proposals or contracts and develop quantity take‑offs for assigned specialties.
• Develop project‑specific account codes and recommend modifications.
• Analyze cost variations and contribute to the project trend program.
• Apply unit rates to quantity breakdowns and conduct cost studies using historical data and statistical analysis.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or an international equivalent.
• 5–8 years (or 9–12 years) of relevant experience in cost estimation and control within construction or mining projects.
• Proven ability to work with cost data, budgets and project codes.
