Data Center Engineering Operations Technician

About the role

The Data Center Engineering Operations Technician is responsible for delivering best‑practice systems and resolving problems across all electrical and mechanical infrastructure in an AWS data centre. The role is hands‑on, requiring frequent site interventions, critical switching activities and troubleshooting of equipment such as UPS, generators and cooling systems.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the highest safety standards and promote a world‑class safety culture.
• Drive continuous improvement by standardising procedures, policies and performance metrics.
• Enable the operations team to achieve 100% uptime for customer‑supporting infrastructure.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure operational excellence for AWS customers.
• Plan and execute preventive maintenance of site‑critical facilities in line with AWS procedures.
• Monitor and supervise facilities via BMS, PMS and regular walkthroughs.
• Participate in build‑out and retrofit projects for data centre infrastructure.
• Respond to and mitigate any customer‑impacting events on electrical or mechanical systems.
• Review incident reports, document trends and provide actionable recommendations.
• Draft, update and maintain method statements, SOPs, emergency response procedures and technical documentation.

• Ability to work independently and on a 24 × 7 schedule when required.
• Physical capability to work at heights, on ladders and in noisy environments with appropriate protection.
• Strong commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
• Effective collaboration skills with internal and external teams.
