Engineering Manager – Ubuntu Package Management

About the role

We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the team responsible for Ubuntu package management and system lifecycle technologies. Based in Chile, you will guide technical direction while fostering growth of experienced engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Define technical vision and roadmap for package management, updates, drivers, firmware and release processes.
• Participate in design reviews and steer architecture, reliability, security and maintainability decisions.
• Promote engineering excellence across performance, compatibility and test automation.
• Mentor and develop a high‑performing engineering team, encouraging ownership and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with globally distributed product, security, desktop, server and release engineering teams.
• Engage with Debian, upstream projects and the open‑source community to influence roadmap and standards.

Required profile

• Outstanding academic record with a degree in Computer Science, STEM or equivalent professional experience.
• Proven experience leading engineering teams, including coaching, performance development and talent growth.
• Deep expertise in Linux distribution technologies, package management systems and software distribution infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of operating system architecture, release engineering and system‑level software design.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a globally distributed organization.
