Infrastructure Engineer - Kubernetes Platform

About the role

Join the Core Infrastructure – Platforms team at Payward to help evolve and scale the Kubernetes platform that powers Kraken’s global financial services. You will work with senior engineers to design, operate, and improve a reliable, secure foundation for all workloads across multiple data centers.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate Kubernetes clusters across on‑premises and cloud environments.
• Scale the platform to meet growing demand while ensuring high availability.
• Triage and resolve infrastructure issues, applying best practices and documentation.
• Collaborate with SRE, networking, and security teams to deliver stable solutions.
• Develop automation and tooling to reduce operational toil.
• Participate in an on‑call rotation to maintain platform reliability.

Required profile

• 3+ years of experience as a Site Reliability Engineer, Infrastructure/Platform Engineer, DevOps Engineer, or similar.
• Strong communication skills and a customer‑focused approach to unblock engineering teams.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems fundamentals.
• Solid Linux expertise, including shell usage, processes, networking basics, and file‑system permissions.
• Fundamental networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, ports, IP addressing, routing, TLS, PKI).
• Good grasp of Kubernetes internals (control plane, scheduling, networking, storage).
• Familiarity with advanced Kubernetes networking such as Cilium.
• Ability to leverage AI tools (Claude, OpenAI) for efficient problem solving.
• Programming or scripting experience (Python, Bash, Go, or similar).
