Medical Director

About the role

The Medical Director joins Abbott’s Affiliate Management Team, participating directly in governance meetings and overseeing the medical strategy for product portfolios. This senior position ensures that medical functions are represented across divisional teams and that scientific information is translated into consistent, safety‑focused marketing communication.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise Medical Managers and guide technical approaches for each product strategy.
• Develop and optimise communication strategies that convey scientific data in a risk‑controlled manner.
• Lead the Medical Affairs sub‑function, directing strategy, planning, execution, and data collection for clinical trials.
• Implement clinical protocols, recruit investigators, negotiate study designs and costs.
• Direct Phase III & IV human clinical trials for products under development.
• Monitor adverse event reporting, safety responsibilities, and regulatory reporting.
• Coordinate investigator initiations, group studies, and ensure protocol adherence.
• Act as consultant or liaison with partner corporations under licensing agreements.

Required profile

• Physician with a medical specialty or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 7 years of leadership experience in the pharmaceutical industry or equivalent academic role.
• Demonstrated management experience in medical affairs or clinical research.
