Principal Designer

About the role

Fluor is seeking a Principal Designer to lead the creation of 3D layouts and detailed design documentation for complex engineering projects. The role supports Fluor’s mission to deliver high‑value technical solutions for U.S. government agencies and contributes to the company’s global competitiveness.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and manage 3D models of moderate to advanced complexity using a 3D review platform.
• Prepare 2‑D CAD drawings and detailed design layouts that meet project drawing standards.
• Review vendor equipment documentation and interdisciplinary drawings for compliance with project requirements, resolving discrepancies.
• Perform bulk material take‑off analysis and generate accurate tabulations.
• Apply industry codes, standards, and departmental procedures throughout the design process.
• Potentially serve as Design Area Lead, guiding junior designers and coordinating design activities.
• Execute other design‑related duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Accredited two‑year degree (or global equivalent) in a technical field, or a combination of education and 15 years of related experience.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with management, clients, vendors, and contractors.
• Detail‑oriented, able to work efficiently under time constraints.
• Knowledge of commercial availability and cost of materials, and practical field experience.
• Proficiency with standard office software (word processing, email, spreadsheets, presentations).
