S3D Designer – Structural Design Engineer

About the role

Bechtel is seeking an experienced S3D Designer to join its Mining and Metals team in Santiago. The role involves planning, developing, coordinating and reviewing structural design work for complex civil and steel structures supporting critical mineral production.

Key responsibilities

• Develop detailed designs for foundations, concrete and steel structures using S3D modeling tools.
• Produce construction drawings and detailed scale models with minimal supervision.
• Monitor design work for compliance with approved civil/structural standards and ensure safe, economical plant operation.
• Participate in constructability reviews and prepare standardized design and drafting procedures.
• Conduct job‑site visits to resolve issues, interpret drawings and support construction teams.
• Review and manage scope changes, ensuring designs meet all applicable codes, regulations and project requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering (or international equivalent).
• 5‑8 years of relevant civil/structural design experience, or 9‑12 years of broader engineering experience.
• Proven ability to produce accurate drawings, facilitate technical discussions and prepare design estimates and work plans.
