Senior Design Engineer

About the role

Fluor is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to lead complex engineering projects for U.S. government agencies. The role combines technical expertise, project leadership, and mentorship to deliver high‑value solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Act as Area Lead or Lead on assigned projects, handling complex engineering assignments.
• Develop and review cost estimates, schedules, progress reports, and workforce forecasts.
• Track material quantities, provide analysis and forecasts, and manage specifications and design criteria.
• Participate in equipment and material procurement, permitting, and subcontracting activities.
• Perform calculations, specify equipment, and solve engineering problems.
• Mentor staff, develop training material, conduct seminars, and contribute to performance appraisals.
• Analyze issues and make independent recommendations aligned with project objectives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Accredited four‑year engineering degree (or global equivalent).
• Minimum ten years of relevant engineering experience.
• Professional certification or registration in the applicable field, where required.
• Strong communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to interpret local, state/provincial, and federal regulations.
• Detail‑oriented, time‑effective work habits.
• Preferred professional society membership and advanced knowledge of discipline codes, standards, and material costs.
