Senior Project Engineer – Advanced Process Control (APC)

About the role

ABB is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to lead Advanced Process Control (APC) initiatives within its Automation business area in Chile. You will act as the design authority for APC solutions, guiding projects from analysis through commissioning while ensuring compliance with safety, quality and cybersecurity standards.

Key responsibilities

• Define technical strategy for APC and control‑optimization projects, from concept to on‑site commissioning.
• Analyse industrial processes in mining, pulp & paper or cement sectors to identify optimisation opportunities.
• Develop, configure and test advanced control strategies and integrate them with DCS, historians, OPC and other systems.
• Support installation, commissioning and performance validation of APC solutions.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to standardisation and knowledge sharing.

Required profile

• Engineering degree in Automation & Control, Electrical, Mechanical, Metallurgical or Mining.
• 7+ years experience in APC, process optimisation or advanced control, preferably in mining, pulp & paper or cement.
• Fluent in English and Spanish, with strong communication and leadership abilities.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of APC control strategies (Fuzzy Logic, MPC, Smith Predictor, rule‑based).
• Experience with DCS, PLC, OPC, historians and control system integration.
• Proficiency in relational databases, SQL and programming languages (Python, C#, VBA, JavaScript).
