Software Engineer – Query Engine (Remote)

About the role

As a Software Engineer specializing in Query Engines, you will design and optimize the core components that enable high‑performance data retrieval. You will bridge high‑level query languages with low‑level execution, ensuring analytical workloads run efficiently with minimal latency.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement sophisticated query planners and cost‑based optimizers to generate efficient execution paths.
• Develop high‑performance execution engines using vectorized processing and SIMD instructions.
• Optimize interactions with columnar storage formats to minimize I/O and maximize throughput for analytical queries.
• Build and refine engine internals, including join algorithms, aggregation frameworks, and sorting mechanisms.
• Collaborate with infrastructure teams to integrate specialized query engines into broader data platform architectures.

Required profile

• 4+ years of software engineering experience focused on database internals or query engines.
• Proven expertise in developing query engine components such as planners, optimizers, and execution engines.
• Proficiency in systems programming with Java or C++.
• Deep understanding of columnar storage formats (e.g., Apache Parquet, Iceberg) and vectorized execution.
• Advanced proficiency in English.
