Backend Engineer (Scala) – Remote

About the role

We are looking for a Backend Engineer specialized in Scala to join our fully remote team. You will design and develop high‑performance, data‑intensive services using functional programming principles and JVM‑based technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable backend services with Scala and functional programming patterns.
• Build and maintain high‑concurrency systems using frameworks such as Akka or Play.
• Optimize application performance by deep‑diving into JVM internals and memory management.
• Develop and maintain complex SQL queries and data models for data‑heavy applications.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define architectural standards and service requirements.
• Ensure system robustness through rigorous testing and proactive troubleshooting of distributed systems.

Required profile

• 4+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on functional programming.
• Proven expertise building backend services and data‑heavy applications using Scala.
• Proficiency with Akka or Play frameworks for scalable, concurrent systems.
• Strong understanding of JVM internals and SQL for performance optimization.
• Hands‑on experience implementing functional programming patterns.
• Advanced proficiency in English.
