Civil Structural Designer

About the role

Bechtel is seeking a Civil Structural Designer to support its Mining and Metals projects in Santiago. The role focuses on training and managing concrete and steel software, developing CAD models, and applying industry standards for a global business unit.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare 2‑D CAD plant layouts and study drawings that feed detailed 3‑D CAD models and construction drawings.
• Create portions of 3‑D CAD design models under supervision, using the S3D platform.
• Review and check calculations, design models, drawings, and documents prepared by others.
• Generate bulk material quantity takeoffs and material requisitions.
• Coordinate designs with other discipline designers and respond to client or construction queries.
• Maintain drawing files, control records, and prepare design calculations.
• Guide less‑experienced designers and perform checking of concrete/steel models and drawings.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) with 8‑10 years of relevant experience, or 12‑14 years of experience without a degree.
• Extensive drafting experience and solid knowledge of CAD design, engineering drawing, and graphic arts.
• Familiarity with Engineering Department Procedures, design standards, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs.
• Ability to read, interpret, and use technical documents and drawings from other project groups.
• Knowledge of industry and regulatory codes, design criteria, and mathematical formulas used in civil/structural design.
• Proven capability to lead technical work of junior designers and drafters.

Required skills

• 2‑D and 3‑D CAD drafting (MicroStation, S3D).
• CSA Bechtel concrete and steel modeling software.
• Quantity takeoff preparation.
• Design calculation development.
• Review and checking of design models and drawings.
