Design Engineer IV

About the role

Fluor is seeking a Design Engineer IV to lead engineering efforts on complex projects for U.S. government agencies. The role combines technical expertise, project leadership, and cost‑effective design to deliver high‑value solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as Area Lead or Lead on assigned projects, handling moderately complex engineering assignments.
• Develop and review specifications, design criteria, and cost‑competitive execution techniques.
• Participate in equipment and material procurement, permitting, and subcontracting activities.
• Perform calculations, specify equipment, and solve engineering problems.
• Review vendor documentation for compliance and resolve discrepancies.
• Analyze problems and make independent recommendations aligned with project objectives.
• Provide other duties as assigned to support project success.

Required profile

• Accredited four‑year engineering degree (or global equivalent).
• Minimum eight years of relevant work experience.
• Professional certification or registration in the applicable engineering field where required.
• Strong communication skills with management, clients, vendors, and contractors.
• Ability to understand and apply local, state/province, and federal regulations.
• Detail‑oriented and able to work efficiently under time constraints.

Required skills

• Advanced knowledge of discipline codes and standards.
• Understanding of commercial availability and cost of materials.
• Effort‑hour estimating and staff forecasting.
• Practical field experience in engineering design and execution.
