Head of Commodity Strategy – Copper & Potash

About the role

BHP is seeking a senior leader to shape its strategic direction for copper and potash. Reporting to the Vice President of Strategy and Market Intelligence, the role will develop commodity strategies, guide capital allocation, and support executive decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the creation of long‑term supply, demand and price outlooks for copper and potash.
• Develop and maintain Commodity Price Protocols.
• Translate commodity insights into portfolio strategy and capital allocation recommendations.
• Align commodity outlooks with asset strategies and assess competitiveness across global cost curves.
• Monitor macro‑economic conditions, competitor actions, policy changes and emerging risks.
• Conduct scenario analysis and risk assessments to inform robust decisions.
• Engage senior leaders, providing clear, decision‑ready insights to the Executive Leadership Team and Board.
• Identify and articulate sources of sustainable competitive advantage within commodity value chains.
• Lead, coach and develop a high‑performing commodity strategy team.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification in commerce, economics, engineering, finance, science or a related discipline.
• Extensive experience in commodity strategy, market intelligence or related fields.
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive strategic initiatives.
