Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to develop mechanical solutions for slurry analyser systems and related equipment used in mining environments. The role involves collaborating with commercial, sales, project and operations teams to deliver safe, cost-effective designs from concept through to delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Work with sales and customers to gather design requirements, provide technical input and review proposals for feasibility.
• Prepare engineering drawing packages, specifications, data sheets, cost estimates and BOMs for the sales team.
• Advise engineering partners on integrating sampling and analysis solutions into plant layouts.
• Produce detailed project documentation, including drawings, part specifications, engineering change notices and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
• Perform engineering calculations, structural, fluid-flow and pressure analyses, and run FEA/CFD simulations to validate and optimise designs.
• Support the full project lifecycle, collaborating with project managers, production and clients to meet lead-time and quality targets.

Required profile

• Proven experience in mechanical design engineering, preferably in mining or chemical analysis equipment.
• Hands-on design expertise with strong communication skills.
• Ability to work cross-functionally with commercial, sales, project and operations teams.
