Mechanical Engineer – Mining Projects

About the role

Bechtel is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical equipment packages for copper processing and mining plants. The role involves coordinating design, cost, and schedule activities across multiple disciplines, customers, and vendors to ensure successful project delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and manage mechanical packages, acting as the technical leader for documentation and schedule compliance.
• Develop engineering designs for pumps, HVAC systems, material‑handling equipment, grinding circuits, and related mechanical systems in mining facilities.
• Lead technical meetings with internal disciplines, customers, and vendors to define scope, design criteria, and cost estimates.
• Perform or review engineering calculations and cost estimations for mechanical components.
• Ensure design solutions meet the unique and complex requirements of mining projects.

Required profile

• Proven experience with mechanical design of mining process equipment (concentrators, leaching, SX/EW, tailings, water/desalination plants).
• Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and communicate technical information effectively.
• Strong understanding of mechanical component interrelations and engineering standards.

Required skills

• Mechanical design of pumps and water/sludge distribution networks.
• HVAC system design for industrial environments.
