Principal Designer

About the role

Fluor is seeking a Principal Designer to lead the creation of 3D layouts and detailed CAD drawings for complex civil and structural projects. The role supports Fluor's competitiveness by delivering high‑quality technical solutions for government contracts.

Key responsibilities

• Develop 3D models of moderate to advanced complexity using a 3D review platform.
• Create 2D CAD drawings of advanced complexity and ensure they follow project drawing standards.
• Review multidisciplinary drawings and vendor equipment documentation for compliance and resolve discrepancies.
• Perform bulk material take‑off analysis and generate tabulations.
• Apply industry codes, standards, and departmental procedures throughout the design process.
• May serve as Design Area Lead and support additional duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Accredited two‑year degree in a technical field or equivalent combination of education and 15 years of related experience.
• Ability to communicate effectively with management, clients, vendors, and contractors.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently under time constraints.
• Knowledge of local, state/province, and federal regulations relevant to the discipline.
• Practical field experience and awareness of commercial material availability and cost.

Required skills

• 3D modeling and 3D review platform usage.
• Advanced 2D CAD drafting.
• Bulk material take‑off and tabulation.
• Familiarity with industry codes and standards.
• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and email.
