Procurement Assistant – UN Regional Commission

About the role

The Procurement Assistant will support the Procurement Unit of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Santiago. Reporting to the Chief Procurement Officer and Senior Procurement Assistant, the role provides essential procurement, logistical and administrative assistance for a wide range of goods and services.

Key responsibilities

• Provide procurement, logistical and administrative support to a team of Procurement Officers.
• Review, record and prioritize purchasing requests, verify vendor availability and funding sources.
• Monitor requisition status, coordinate shipments, verify receipt and inspection of deliverables.
• Prepare tender documents such as Invitations to Bids, Requests for Proposals and Requests for Quotations.
• Compile abstracts of offers and evaluate quotations to identify the best value suppliers.
• Finalize purchase orders and contracts for approval, and, where authorized, sign off purchases.
• Assist officers on complex, high‑value purchases and ensure proper document distribution.
• Maintain internal databases, track contractual agreements and inform users of rights and obligations.
• Research supply sources and vendor information to support procurement planning.

Required profile

• Strong organizational and administrative abilities.
• Attention to detail in reviewing documentation and tracking contracts.
• Ability to communicate effectively with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
• Familiarity with procurement processes and tendering procedures.
