Senior Design Engineer

About the role

Fluor is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to lead complex engineering assignments and support the delivery of high‑value technical solutions for U.S. government agencies. The role combines technical expertise, project leadership, and mentorship to drive quality and competitiveness in a global marketplace.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as Area Lead or Lead on assigned projects, handling complex engineering tasks.
• Develop and review cost estimates, schedules, progress reports, and workforce forecasts.
• Establish, track, and monitor material quantities, providing analysis and forecasts.
• Prepare and review specifications, design criteria, and procurement documentation.
• Perform calculations, specify equipment, and resolve engineering problems of varying complexity.
• Participate in equipment and material procurement, permitting, and subcontracting activities.
• Mentor junior staff, develop training material, and contribute to performance appraisals.

Required profile

• Accredited four‑year engineering degree (or global equivalent) with at least ten years of relevant experience.
• Professional certification or registration in the applicable engineering field (preferred).
• Strong communication skills for interaction with management, clients, vendors, and contractors.
• Ability to interpret and apply local, state/provincial, and federal regulations.
• Detail‑oriented, time‑effective work habits.
• Membership in technical societies and advanced knowledge of discipline codes and standards (preferred).
