Software Engineer II (Data Acquisition)

About the role

Join Checkr’s Data Acquisition team as a Software Engineer II, building reliable and scalable data platforms that power fair hiring decisions for millions of users. You will collaborate with engineers across Santiago and the United States on high‑impact, distributed‑system projects.

Key responsibilities

• Drive the full development lifecycle for data platform features, from design and architecture to implementation, testing, and production monitoring.
• Design and build new data acquisition platforms in Python, emphasizing reliability, scalability, and observability.
• Participate in architecture decisions, author design documents, and help shape the technical direction of the team.
• Enhance platform visibility through structured logging, metrics, and alerting using Datadog and OpenTelemetry.
• Collaborate closely with engineers in Chile and the US, supporting async‑first planning and execution.

Required profile

• Advanced English communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Willingness to work in a hybrid format at the Santiago office (3 days in‑office, 2 days remote).
• 4+ years of software engineering experience with a strong backend focus.
• Proficiency in Python (or Go) and experience with distributed systems, APIs, or data pipelines.
• Hands‑on experience with containerized deployments using Docker and Kubernetes/EKS.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
• Strong ownership mindset, including participation in on‑call rotations and end‑to‑end service accountability.
• Bias for action, resilience in ambiguous situations, and a drive to deliver meaningful outcomes.
