Transport Driver (Hospital Transport)

About the role

The Transport Department at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy is recruiting Transport Drivers on a full‑time (36 hrs), part‑time (4 hrs) or bank basis. You will support the movement of patients, clinical specimens, pharmacy supplies, store goods and clinical waste across the hospital estate and throughout Fife.

Key responsibilities

• Transport laboratories/specimen collections, pharmacy items, store goods and patients safely.
• Collect and dispose of clinical waste following ADR regulations.
• Operate a range of vehicles – cars, vans, minibuses and 3.5‑tonne lorries.
• Perform manual handling tasks such as moving cages, equipment, furniture and waste bins.
• Follow route maps and timed duty schedules, working primarily Monday‑Friday with limited weekend cover.

Required profile

• Full, clean UK driving licence.
• Good communication skills and ability to follow detailed route plans.
• Physical capability for manual handling of diverse items.
• Flexibility to work across Victoria Hospital and other NHS sites as needed.

Required skills

• Driving – proficient with cars, vans, minibuses and light trucks.
• Route planning and navigation.
• ADR (hazardous waste) handling procedures.
