About the role
Google’s Hardware Operations team is looking for a Data Center Technician II to join its data‑center workforce. The role involves installing, configuring, testing, troubleshooting and maintaining server hardware and Linux‑based cluster software in a high‑performance environment.
Key responsibilities
- Install, configure, test and maintain servers, racks and related components.
- Troubleshoot and repair operating systems, server hardware and networking protocols.
- Configure network devices such as routers, switches, hubs and bridges.
- Lead or participate in small project teams for larger installations and develop contingency plans.
- Perform manual movement and installation of racks, including lifting up to 50 lb and sustained physical activity.
Required profile
- Experience performing component‑level repairs and troubleshooting on technical equipment.
- Ability to diagnose operating systems, computer/server hardware or networking protocols.
- Proficiency with Linux operating systems.
- Physical ability to lift/move 50 lb and sustain bending, kneeling, climbing and pulling.
- Fluent English communication skills.
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience and at least 2 years of relevant experience in a data‑center or NOC environment.
