Design Engineer II

About the role

Fluor is seeking a Design Engineer II to support engineering projects for U.S. government agencies. The role involves applying engineering techniques to develop cost‑effective solutions, create specifications, and ensure compliance with project requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and review design specifications and criteria for assigned projects.
• Apply cost‑competitive execution methods to deliver value‑driven engineering solutions.
• Participate in equipment and material procurement, permitting, and subcontracting activities.
• Perform engineering calculations, specify equipment, and resolve moderate to complex technical issues.
• Review vendor documentation for compliance and coordinate discrepancy resolution.
• Analyze problems and provide independent recommendations aligned with project objectives.

Required profile

• Accredited four‑year engineering degree (or global equivalent) and at least four years of relevant experience.
• Professional registration or certification preferred.
• Strong communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to interpret local, state/provincial and federal regulations.
• Detail‑oriented and able to work efficiently under time constraints.

Required skills

• Advanced knowledge of engineering codes, standards, and material costs.
• Practical field experience in engineering projects.
• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
