Design Engineer IV

About the role

Fluor is seeking a Design Engineer IV to lead engineering efforts on complex projects for U.S. government agencies. The role combines technical expertise with administrative oversight to deliver cost‑effective, high‑quality engineering solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as Area Lead or Lead on assigned projects, handling moderately complex engineering assignments.
• Apply Cost Competitive Execution techniques to develop the most cost‑effective total project solution.
• Develop and review specifications and design criteria.
• Participate in equipment and material procurement, permitting, and subcontracting activities.
• Perform and verify calculations, specify equipment, and solve engineering problems.
• Review vendor equipment documentation for compliance and resolve discrepancies.
• Analyze problems and make independent recommendations aligned with project objectives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Accredited four‑year engineering degree (or global equivalent).
• Minimum eight years of relevant work experience.
• Professional certification or registration in the applicable field, where required.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with management, clients, vendors, and contractors.
• Ability to interpret and apply local, state/province, and federal regulations.
• Detail‑oriented and able to work efficiently under time constraints.
• Preferred professional registration and membership in a technical society.
• Advanced knowledge of discipline codes, standards, material availability, and cost.
• Experience with effort‑hour estimating, staff forecasting, and practical field work.
