Managing Counsel – Product (Payroll & AI focus)

About the role

We are seeking a Managing Counsel, Product to lead legal strategy for payroll and AI‑enabled HR technology products. Based in Chile, you will work in a distributed, asynchronous environment alongside product, engineering, privacy, security and commercial teams.

Key responsibilities

• Provide end‑to‑end product legal counsel for payroll and AI‑driven solutions, including launch‑readiness and AI impact assessments.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Payroll, Privacy, Security and Commercial Legal to embed legal considerations throughout the product lifecycle.
• Draft and negotiate product terms, AI‑specific contractual provisions, and data‑usage agreements.
• Monitor emerging AI, employment, data‑protection and payroll regulations across 90+ jurisdictions and translate them into actionable product requirements.
• Support compliance with frameworks such as the EU AI Act, UK AI regulations, US federal and state laws, Canadian AI legislation, GDPR and CCPA.
• Collaborate with Privacy and Security on DPIAs, TIAs, incident response and vendor assessments.
• Manage external counsel on complex multi‑jurisdictional matters and deliver legal enablement through training and office‑hours sessions.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with substantial experience advising technology products, preferably across multiple jurisdictions.
• Proven product counsel experience in HR technology, payroll, PEO, EOR or HRIS environments.
• Strong commercial judgment, pragmatic problem‑solving and a keen interest in AI/ML, data protection and emerging technology regulation.

Required skills

• Expertise in payroll law, AI regulatory compliance, data‑protection frameworks (GDPR, CCPA) and employment law.
• Experience conducting AI impact assessments, model‑card creation, DPIAs and risk‑control design.
• Ability to translate complex legal requirements into clear product guidance.
