Mechanical Engineer II – Infrastructure Maintenance

About the role

The Mechanical Engineer II joins the Infrastructure Maintenance Group (IMG) of the ALMA Department of Engineering. The role provides professional mechanical engineering support for infrastructure assets, ensuring their availability, reliability, safety and performance.

Key responsibilities

• Provide mechanical engineering support for assigned assets, including troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Develop, review and improve preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance plans based on equipment condition and reliability data.
• Monitor equipment performance, assess technical and lifecycle risks, and recommend renewal or obsolescence actions.
• Lead technical tests, inspections and verification activities to diagnose problems and validate compliance.
• Prepare and support technical specifications, participate in procurement evaluations and assist with acceptance and commissioning of new or repaired equipment.
• Coordinate engineering activities with IMG supervisors, technicians, other ADE groups, contractors and suppliers.

Required profile

• University degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 3 years of professional experience in maintenance engineering of mechanical or infrastructure systems.
• Proven ability to perform root‑cause analysis and technical problem solving.
• Fluent Spanish and intermediate‑advanced English (B2) proficiency.
• Valid Class B driver’s licence and legal right to work in Chile.

Required skills

• Mechanical engineering and maintenance engineering (preventive, predictive, corrective).
• Root‑cause analysis and technical troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of power generation, HVAC, pumps, fire detection and suppression, and oxygen supply systems.
• Experience with CMMS/GMAO maintenance management systems.
