Principal Designer

About the role

Fluor is seeking a Principal Designer to lead the creation of 3D layouts and detailed design documentation for complex projects supporting U.S. government agencies. The role combines technical expertise with the ability to guide design teams and ensure compliance with project standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and manage 3D models of moderate to advanced complexity using a 3D review platform.
• Produce 2D CAD drawings and apply project drawing standards.
• Conduct model reviews, resolve discrepancies, and verify vendor equipment documentation.
• Perform bulk material take‑off analysis and generate tabulations.
• Ensure designs adhere to industry codes, standards, and departmental procedures.
• Serve as Design Area Lead when required and support other assigned duties.

Required profile

• Accredited two‑year degree in a technical field or equivalent experience (≈15 years).
• Strong communication skills for interaction with management, clients, vendors, and contractors.
• Detail‑oriented, able to work efficiently under time constraints.
• Knowledge of commercial material availability, costs, and practical field experience.
• Proficiency with standard office software (word processing, email, spreadsheets, presentations).
