Principal Operational Auditor

About the role

The Principal Operational Auditor will provide technical expertise for assurance activities related to risk management, internal processes, and operational controls across BHP Chile’s assets. You will lead the delivery of the internal audit plan, using data analytics to enhance audit scope, generate insights, and support continuous improvement of risk culture.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality operational audit engagements aligned with internal methodology, governance frameworks, and industry standards.
• Lead planning phases, including preparation, onboarding, logistics, and development of consistent work programs.
• Utilize data analytics to refine audit scope, identify trends, and produce evidence‑based findings.
• Execute and oversee fieldwork testing, collaborating with audit teams and business stakeholders.
• Conduct risk‑culture assessments and translate behavioral insights into audit recommendations.
• Prepare clear audit findings and high‑quality audit reports.
• Enhance audit quality through effective stakeholder engagement and timely delivery.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of operational audit programs, aligning them with business priorities.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of experience in production, maintenance, asset integrity, risk management, audit, safety, or related operational disciplines.
• Strong background in the resources/mining industry with practical experience applying risk management principles.
