Senior Research Assistant, Population Affairs

About the role

The Senior Research Assistant will support the Population Division of ECLAC in monitoring and analysing demographic trends across the region. Working under the Coordinator of the Population and Development Area, the role involves preparing analytical materials, managing data sets, and assisting with project implementation.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and monitor substantive aspects of the Unit’s work in various countries.
• Select, evaluate, and summarize documents; collect and analyse data for reports and briefs.
• Prepare charts, graphs, and other visual outputs for presentations.
• Assist in formulating project proposals and coordinate day‑to‑day monitoring of projects.
• Build special data sets and design/update databases for research needs.
• Organise committee and task‑force meetings, draft agendas, and take minutes.
• Serve as secretary to committees, draft summary reports, and monitor follow‑up actions.
• Liaise with external delegates, NGOs, and internal units.
• Draft and edit complex technical texts and prepare newsletters on programme activities.

Required profile

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple research tasks.
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills for data collection and interpretation.
• Experience in preparing technical documents, reports, and briefing materials.
• Excellent organizational skills for coordinating meetings and managing databases.
