Solution Architect – POS & Payments Platform

About the role

Solution Architects on the Genius POS team at Global Payments own the technical outcomes for one or more point‑of‑sale platforms, guiding cloud‑native design, payment integration and AI‑enabled features. The role works closely with product and engineering teams to make fast, secure, and scalable architectural decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in sprint ceremonies, roadmap planning and trade‑off discussions as a first‑class member of the delivery team.
• Lead architecture for payment flows (card‑present, card‑not‑present, tokenization, surcharge, etc.) and for integrations with loyalty, delivery, gift, payroll and fiscal providers.
• Design APIs and contracts that enable capability sharing across POS platforms and contribute to a unified integration fabric.
• Define and champion AI‑enabled solutions such as chatbots, agentic workflows and AI‑assisted development tooling.
• Own non‑functional requirements – security, scalability, observability and compliance – as core design inputs.

Required profile

• 6+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a solution‑architect, lead‑engineer or principal‑engineer capacity.
• Proven experience designing and shipping payment integrations (card‑present, tokenization, PCI‑scoped architectures).
• Hands‑on experience building cloud‑native microservices on AWS or Azure.
• Strong API design skills (REST, OpenAPI, OAuth 2.0, API‑key lifecycle).
• Experience integrating third‑party platforms using adapter or provider‑agnostic patterns.

Required skills

• AWS (ECS/Fargate, EKS, Lambda, SQS/SNS, Aurora, S3, CloudWatch) or Azure (App Services, AKS, Service Bus, Cosmos DB).
• Backend languages: Java.NET, Node.js, PHP, Go.
• Databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL, Aurora, Redis, OpenSearch/Elasticsearch.
• Messaging/event systems: Kafka, SQS/SNS.
• Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD: Terraform, GitHub Actions, Harness.
• AI/ML foundation‑model APIs (AWS Bedrock, OpenAI, GCP Vertex), prompt engineering, RAG patterns, agent frameworks.
• Payments compliance knowledge: PCI DSS, P2PE, tokenization, various tender types.
