Senior Pharmacy Technician – Dispensary Services

About the role

This senior position supports the responsible pharmacist in delivering safe, efficient dispensary services across NHS Lanarkshire. You will lead the day‑to‑day operations, ensuring timely supply of discharge prescriptions, controlled drugs and stock to wards and departments.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and organise the dispensary workload and staffing to meet patient and departmental needs.
• Supervise dispensing activities, ensuring adherence to good dispensing practice and high standards.
• Maintain accurate documentation, equipment records and standard operating procedures.
• Provide line‑management for dispensary staff, handling recruitment, appraisal, attendance and performance management.
• Lead a multidisciplinary team of pharmacists, technicians and support workers, fostering a positive culture and continuous development.

Required profile

• Qualified pharmacy technician with extensive experience in hospital dispensary environments.
• Proven leadership and people‑management abilities.
• Strong knowledge of national and local pharmacy regulations, especially concerning controlled drugs.
• Excellent organisational and planning skills.
