Climate Risk Consultant (ESG Division)

About the role

We are looking for a Climate Risk Consultant to join the ESG Division of IDB Invest, the private‑sector arm of the Inter‑American Development Bank. The role supports the implementation of IDB Invest’s climate strategy, focusing on both mitigation and adaptation across high‑risk projects in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical support to project teams on high‑risk climate initiatives, including decarbonisation, energy transition, resource efficiency, and climate‑adaptation measures.
• Review and assess climate action plans, mitigation/adaptation documentation, and supervision activities for investment proposals.
• Assist in the development, monitoring and reporting of climate‑related action plans and performance indicators.
• Support project‑level and portfolio‑level GHG accounting in line with the GHG Protocol, Paris Alignment methodologies and multilateral development bank (MDB) practices.
• Collect, quality‑control, analyse and report internal GHG data, and help integrate climate metrics into institutional systems.
• Analyse and improve internal climate‑related workflows, data systems and reporting processes, exploring AI‑enabled and digital solutions to enhance risk screening and knowledge generation.
• Contribute to climate mainstreaming across the organisation through knowledge products and capacity‑building activities.

Required profile

• Strong motivation to advance climate risk management within a development‑finance context.
• Experience working on complex climate projects, preferably in mitigation and adaptation.
• Familiarity with GHG accounting standards and climate‑data management.
• Ability to collaborate with investment, ESG, data and digital teams.
