Nurse Practitioner – Pre‑assessment Suite (Part‑time)

About the role

This part‑time position is for a Nurse Practitioner (or Trainee Nurse Practitioner) within the Pre‑assessment Suite at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy. You will work closely with the Senior Charge Nurse, consultant anaesthetists, surgeons and fellow nurse practitioners to prepare elective surgical and orthopaedic patients for admission.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Senior Charge Nurse in delivering a clinically effective pre‑assessment service.
• Conduct comprehensive medical assessments and physical examinations of patients on the waiting list.
• Manage ongoing medical needs of elective patients to facilitate planned admission and discharge planning.
• Liaise with surgical/orthopaedic wards and theatres to coordinate admission and postoperative pathways.
• Develop and expand the nurse practitioner role to meet service and patient needs.

Required profile

• Significant experience in surgical or orthopaedic nursing settings.
• Knowledge of acute surgical/orthopaedic pathways (desirable).
• Completed, working towards, or willing to undertake Advanced Clinical Examination and Non‑Medical Prescribing courses.
• Senior Band 5 nurse with strong communication, organisational skills and a commitment to continuous professional development.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
