Staff Nurse – Isle of Barra (Band 5)

About the role

The Barra Nursing Team at St. Brendans Hospital is seeking an enthusiastic Staff Nurse (Band 5) to join a 36‑hour permanent roster on the Isle of Barra. You will work across hospital and community settings, providing high‑quality care to the island’s 1,300 residents.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver clinical care in the inpatient ward, emergency department and outpatient clinic.
• Provide community nursing, including CTAC and palliative care, for Barra and Vatersay.
• Work rotational shifts and respond to both scheduled and unscheduled patient needs.
• Supervise and support learners and contribute to multidisciplinary team discussions.
• Complete all mandatory training and maintain up‑to‑date professional registration.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with a current NMC registration.
• Valid driving licence for travel between islands.
• Commitment to evidence‑based practice and patient‑centred care.
• Willingness to register with the PVG Scheme.

Required skills

• Advanced nursing assessment and clinical decision‑making.
• Experience in acute, community and palliative care settings.
• Ability to manage trauma and paediatric cases (desirable).
