Clinical Secretary - Surgical Directorate

About the role

The Clinical Secretary provides comprehensive administrative support to a team of clinicians within the Surgical Directorate, ensuring smooth operation of patient pathways and clinical activities.

Key responsibilities

• Type dictated clinical letters, discharge summaries, referral letters and legal reports.
• Prepare meeting minutes and maintain accurate clinical notes.
• Prioritise workload to meet agreed service standards.
• Organise and re‑arrange outpatient clinics, operating lists and theatre schedules.
• Book appointments, arrange investigative tests and chase diagnostic results.
• Anticipate and resolve scheduling conflicts or delays.
• Maintain coded and timely records on electronic systems such as Trakcare.

Required profile

• SVQ Level 2 qualification or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 2 years experience in healthcare administration or 3 years in a secretarial role.
• Good understanding of medical terminology.
• Evidence of effective teamwork and ability to manage change.
• Strong communication skills with patients, clinicians and colleagues.
