Clinical Support Worker – Discharge Lounge

About the role

The Discharge Lounge Clinical Support Worker provides essential nursing care to patients awaiting discharge across all specialties. Working within NHS Lanarkshire’s Discharge Lounge, you will help ensure a smooth, safe transition from hospital to home.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑standard nursing care to patients in the Discharge Lounge while they await discharge.
• Coordinate with transport services, social work, pharmacy and external agencies to facilitate timely discharges.
• Assist the flow team, support bed‑busting activities and help manage hospital bed, mattress and commode inventories.
• Track and collect prescriptions, perform routine specimen collection and escort duties as required.
• Record vital signs, monitor patient mobility, and report any changes in physical or psychological status.
• Carry out equipment pre‑use checks and prepare procedure trolleys according to protocols.

Required profile

• SVQ Level III in Healthcare or equivalent experience in a caring environment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Capability to perform patient‑care tasks in a busy hospital setting.
