Consultant Gastroenterology – NHS Ayrshire & Arran

About the role

The NHS Ayrshire & Arran is seeking an experienced Consultant in Gastroenterology to join a Pan‑Ayrshire service. This senior medical role will involve delivering high‑quality inpatient and outpatient care, shaping service development and supporting education across acute, community and primary care settings.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive gastroenterology care for in‑patients and out‑patients across NHS Ayrshire & Arran.
• Lead and integrate the service to eliminate medical boarding and ensure patient‑centred care.
• Participate in and promote postgraduate education and training for doctors, GP trainees and Clinical Development Fellows.
• Develop innovative community‑facing training posts and support multidisciplinary collaboration.
• Contribute to service planning, quality improvement and the expansion of acute‑community interfaces.

Required profile

• Full GMC registration with specialist accreditation in gastroenterology.
• Proven experience in acute and community gastroenterology services.
• Strong leadership, teaching and communication abilities.
• Commitment to service development and multidisciplinary teamwork.
• Willingness to work on a 10 programmed activity basis, with flexibility for part‑time or job‑share arrangements.
