Consultant in Older People’s Medicine

About the role

The position is a Consultant role in Older People’s Medicine within the Pan‑Ayrshire service, based at University Hospital Crosshouse. The post will involve both inpatient and outpatient care, development of the frailty service, and participation in an out‑of‑hours stroke rota (1:6). It offers a unique chance to influence the future of older‑people’s healthcare in NHS Ayrshire and Arran.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality inpatient and outpatient care for older patients.
• Develop and innovate the frailty service alongside a multidisciplinary team.
• Participate in the out‑of‑hours stroke on‑call rota.
• Provide leadership and training for community‑facing posts and Clinical Development Fellows.
• Contribute to the postgraduate education programme and support junior doctors.

Required profile

• Qualified Consultant in Older People’s Medicine or Geriatric Medicine.
• Motivated, enthusiastic and able to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
• Commitment to innovation, service development and teaching.
• Willingness to engage in on‑call duties and leadership activities.
