Design Engineer I

About the role

Fluor is seeking a Design Engineer I to support project teams in delivering high‑value technical solutions for U.S. government agencies. The role involves applying engineering principles to moderately complex assignments while collaborating with leads, vendors, and multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Area Lead or Project Lead in developing cost‑effective engineering solutions.
• Develop and review design specifications and criteria.
• Participate in equipment and material procurement, permitting, and subcontracting activities.
• Perform calculations, specify equipment, and resolve moderate engineering problems.
• Review vendor documentation for compliance and coordinate discrepancy resolution.
• Analyze project challenges and provide independent recommendations.
• Support other duties as assigned by project leadership.

Required profile

• Accredited four‑year engineering degree (or global equivalent).
• Minimum three years of relevant engineering experience.
• Professional registration or certification where required.
• Strong communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to work detail‑oriented and meet project timelines.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Intermediate knowledge of engineering codes, standards, and material costs.
