Highly Specialist Clinical Pharmacist – Surgery & Anaesthetics

About the role

The Highly Specialist Clinical Pharmacist will lead the pharmacy service for the surgical and theatres directorates at University Hospital Monklands. Working as an integrated member of the multidisciplinary team, you will ensure high‑quality pharmaceutical care for patients in ICU and surgical wards while supporting the education and training of pharmacy staff and students.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop clinical pharmacy services for surgical and anaesthetic patients.
• Prescribe and manage parenteral nutrition as a key member of the Nutritional Support Team.
• Introduce and run pharmacist‑led pre‑assessment clinics and participate in INSPIRE clinics.
• Provide education, supervision and mentorship to pharmacy under‑graduates, trainees and pharmacists undertaking foundation or advanced training.
• Act as a role model and ensure safe, effective, and cost‑efficient use of medicines.

Required profile

• Qualified clinical pharmacist with specialist experience in surgery and anaesthetics.
• Proven ability to lead pharmacy teams and deliver clinical services in an acute hospital setting.
• Experience in teaching, supervising and mentoring pharmacy trainees.
• Willingness to work on a fixed‑term (12 months) secondment with prior line‑manager agreement if applicable.
