Housekeeper – Ward 31 (Orthopaedic)

About the role

The Ward 31 Housekeeper ensures a clean, safe and welcoming environment for patients on a busy orthopaedic fracture ward. Working closely with nurses, doctors and therapists, the role supports high‑quality, person‑centred care for frail and elderly patients.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the ward.
• Implement infection prevention and control procedures in line with NHS policies.
• Assist with meal service and manage stock of cleaning and clinical supplies.
• Support patient comfort and dignity by ensuring a tidy and safe environment.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to meet ward needs.

Required profile

• Ability to work effectively under pressure in a busy acute ward.
• Resilience and flexibility to adapt to changing demands.
• Good organisational and time‑management skills.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with staff, patients and visitors.
• Reliability and a commitment to high‑quality care.

Required skills

• Knowledge of safe cleaning practices and proper use of cleaning equipment, materials and chemicals.
• Understanding of health and safety regulations, manual handling and COSHH.
• Familiarity with NHS infection control policies (desirable).
