About the role

The Regional Ombudsman leads the UN Ombudsman office in Santiago, delivering impartial, confidential conflict‑resolution services to United Nations staff and affiliated personnel across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the Regional Ombudsman Office, ensuring effective service delivery within the assigned coverage area.
• Provide independent, confidential mediation, shuttle diplomacy, and conflict‑coaching to resolve employment‑related concerns.
• Advise staff on resolution options while balancing organisational rights and obligations.
• Engage with regional leadership and stakeholders as a neutral actor to address work‑related issues.
• Design and deliver outreach and skill‑building initiatives to raise awareness of informal resolution services.
• Identify systemic policy or procedural issues, report trends, and give upward feedback to senior management.
• Coordinate closely with UNOMS headquarters on sensitive matters and systemic trends.
• Prepare periodic activity reports with qualitative and quantitative case data.
• Supervise regional staff, handling performance management and professional development.
• Travel regularly, including virtual visits, to provide in‑person services, outreach, and training.

Required profile

• Proven experience in conflict resolution, mediation, or staff‑relations within an international or public‑sector environment.
• Strong knowledge of United Nations staff policies and administrative procedures.
• Demonstrated leadership and team‑management abilities.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and diplomatic skills.
• Ability to analyse systemic issues and provide constructive feedback to senior management.
• Willingness to travel frequently across the region.
