Senior Charge Nurse / Team Leader

About the role

The Senior Charge Nurse/Team Leader provides clinical leadership and expert advice to nursing staff across a ward or department within NHS Lanarkshire. The role carries 24‑hour responsibility for managing the clinical environment, ensuring high‑quality patient care, and supporting staff development.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and supervise nursing staff, including recruitment, deployment and performance management.
• Maintain continuous 24‑hour oversight of the ward/department and provide rotational cover across the directorate or hospital.
• Assess patient care needs and develop, implement and evaluate care programmes.
• Allocate work, supervise staff and adjust priorities as clinical demands change.
• Motivate the nursing team to keep patients and their carers at the centre of care delivery.
• Utilise advanced speciality skills to facilitate patient interventions.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with a valid NMC registration.
• Educated to degree level (or working towards it) with postgraduate expertise in the relevant speciality.
• Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the speciality.
