Specialist Rotational Pharmacist – Surgery and Planned Care

About the role

This rotational specialist pharmacist position offers the opportunity to develop clinical expertise across multiple surgical and planned‑care specialties within NHS Fife. Based at Victoria Hospital and Whyteman’s Brae Hospital in Kirkcaldy, the role combines inpatient and outpatient experience with direct patient interaction.

Key responsibilities

• Complete four 9‑month rotations covering General Surgery, Cancer Services, Orthopaedic Surgery and Rheumatology.
• Deliver medication reviews, support multidisciplinary teams and contribute to pharmacist‑led clinics.
• Lead and support service development projects to improve patient care pathways.
• Work closely with senior clinical pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and other healthcare professionals.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and participate in training activities.

Required profile

• Motivated, patient‑centred pharmacist with a passion for clinical development.
• Willingness to obtain or hold an Independent Prescribing qualification (training provided if needed).
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced, evolving inpatient environment.
• Commitment to becoming a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme.
• Previous hospital experience is not essential; training will be provided.

Required skills

• Independent prescribing (or willingness to train).
• Clinical pharmacy practice.
• Medication management and review.
