Staff Nurse / Operating Dept Practitioner – Recovery (AA)

About the role

This position is for a Staff Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner working in the Theatre Recovery Area of NHS Fife. You will provide one‑to‑one post‑operative care for adult and paediatric patients across a wide range of surgical specialties.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver immediate post‑operative and anaesthetic care in a busy theatre environment.
• Manage unconscious patients, including airway adjuncts, pain control, invasive monitoring and post‑theatre complications.
• Provide one‑to‑one nursing, responding swiftly to clinical emergencies.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, anaesthetists and recovery practitioners.

Required profile

• Previous experience caring for surgical and acutely ill patients.
• Ability to handle clinical emergencies and work in a fast‑paced setting.
• Willingness to complete a 6‑month orientation programme with a mentor.
• Eligibility to join the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme and right to work in the UK.
• Flexibility to work day, night and weekend shifts as required.
